Aiforsite

Towards more efficient cloud services with Fluentia

A forerunner in construction productivity Aiforsite wanted to offer its customers the possibility to use the service it had developed in the cloud environment of their choice. With Fluentia, a new, efficient and reliable hybrid cloud infrastructure was built for Aiforsite's own employees.

Aiforsite brings knowledge management to construction sites

The mission of Aiforsite, a construction technology company, is to improve the productivity of construction. Its artificial intelligence solution provides real-time situational awareness of the construction site to help construction sites stay on schedule and save costs. Information, data and their multifaceted management are the cornerstones of operations.

Aiforsite had long been using cloud technology to efficiently manage data and ensure the functionality of its solution. The problem, however, was that international customers had requirements for the cloud technology to be used that Aiforsite's single cloud offering was no longer sufficient to meet.

In pursuit of cloud independence, Aiforsite wanted the best and freshest expertise to support the implementation. Therefore, the focus turned to external expertise.

In search of efficiency and independence with Fluentia

When looking for the possibility to deploy its services on different cloud platforms or on a traditional server farm, Aiforsite turned to Fluentia, whose experts have a wide range of experience in contract software development and cloud services. In collaboration with Aiforsite's technical experts, Fluentia's DevOps experts Tomi and Joona set out to plan the necessary changes.

The project started with mapping and packaging existing code into Docker containers. The development team created a local environment and an AWS Elastic Kubernetes Services cloud development environment, including Terraform management of installations. This allowed for more efficient development work in the long term. The work of developers and administrators was further facilitated by developing a technical platform that scales as automatically as possible according to the workload. The Gitlab CI/CD service was also introduced, building in automation from code compilation to deployment.

Initially, the idea was just to design the necessary steps for Aiforsite, but quickly Fluentia's experts were involved in implementing the necessary code. In total, the project took about four months.

Knowledge transfer from Fluentia to the client company

The infrastructure implemented with Fluentia has remained in Aiforsite's long-term use. An essential part of the project was also the transfer of knowledge and skills to Aiforsite's own employees alongside the development work.

The cooperation and learning new things went very well.

- Aiforsite employees were clearly eager to learn new things. They were a pleasure to work with," says Joona.

With the new infrastructure, Aiforsite has been able to create a more reliable solution for its construction customers. Independence from individual cloud suppliers offers long-term flexibility and reliability, and the system created with Fluentia will streamline the further development of services. In addition, the scalable resources bring savings in maintenance costs.

- Fluential understood our needs very well, says Aiforsite's CTO Sami Kalliokoski"They had a strong understanding of the technologies and tools needed and were able to solve even challenging technical problems. The cooperation with Fluentia went smoothly and really well.

Fluential is also happy about the cooperation. As a provider of software development services, Fluentia always knows it has done its job well when its customers' operations become more efficient, their reliability increases and their profitability grows.
