CTO AI Corner: Your industry is not special – how AI is transforming every field

The conversations around me seem to be full of confident explanations about why AI won’t disrupt “this particular industry.” Apparently, every industry believes it’s the exception. Let’s look at some of the arguments.

"Our industry is very people-oriented and relies on communication."
‍Sure
. People will probably keep talking to each other. But what about everything that happens after those conversations? Notes, summaries, follow-ups, analysis, coordination. A surprising amount of "human work" is just structured repetition.

"AI can't handle this one specific thing."
‍True
. AI can't do everything. But if it can handle 50 percent, that's not a limitation. That's a staffing discussion waiting to happen.

"We face legal obstacles."
‍That's alsotrue in many cases. But "AI cannot make final decisions" quickly turns into "AI prepares everything needed for the final decision." And suddenly, most of the work is still being done. Also, where cloud models are restricted, local models tend to quietly emerge.

"Our customers value the human touch."
‍Do
they value it, or are they just used to it? If the result is the same and the price is half, loyalty starts to look more like a line item.

"Our work is too complex."
‍Complex
work is usually just a collection of simpler tasks disguised as something more complicated. AI doesn't need to solve everything at once. It just needs to tackle enough of the pieces to make a difference.

"Our customers don't trust AI."
‍Trust
isn't a prerequisite. It's a gradual side effect. People didn't trust autopilot, spell check, or GPS at first either.

So yes, your industry might be different. But it’s also similar to others in many ways.
